Visanu: No conclusion yet on holding talks with parties

DEPUTY Prime Minister Visanu Krua-ngam this morning (June 12, 2018) said that no conclusion had been reached yet on holding talks with political parties because a meeting can only be held when it is convenient for all sides, Thai News Agency reported.

While it is convenient of the Election Commission to hold talks on Thursday June 14, it still has to be seen whether political parties, the Office of the Council of State and the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) also find it so.

Initial talks will be at the official team level, a small circle, to discuss primary voting system and problems about NCPO announcement number 53/2557.

However Visanu added that it will not be necessary to use section 44 to resolve these problems.

The Deputy Prime Minister also mentioned that it is for NCPO to invite political parties to hold talks and this should be held this month.

This is in accordance with Democrat Party leader Apisit Vejjajva’s suggestion that talks be first held with the Election Commission to reach an understanding.

That some political parties have said they will not be joining these talks is up to them but right now none have been invited to do so, he added.
