FOURTEEN wardens around Thailand were fired today (Nov. 30) for committing serious offences while on duty in prisons around Thailand, the Thai-language daily Khao Sod reported.
Corrections Department director-general Narat Sawettanand said the offences committed by the wardens included taking bribes and allowing male inmates to gamble, have sex with female inmates, and trading Buddha amulets.
“Not many inmates have been found to break prison regulations, but I am more concerned about some wardens who have turned a blind eye or received some money from the prisoners,” he said.
A number of prison wardens has been dismissed or put in jail for committed these offences, he added.
