AUTHORITIES have raised red and yellow flags on the beaches of Phi Phi islands to warn tourists to be extra careful as waves are very high and the wind strong and have also made it mandatory for them to wear life vests if they want to enter the water, Matichon newspaper said today (May 28).
Officials at Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park in Krabi instructed all tourist destinations to more strictly protect tourists and safer beach areas have been demarcated.
Meanwhile Krabi Governor Phinit Boonlert told officials and volunteers to issue warnings about dangerous beach areas in all eight districts.
They were also told to watch the water level in canals and observe if it turns very muddy and there be lots of leaves and branches floating down because this is a sign that floods are imminent.
Should this be the case then residents have to be alerted to watch out for flooding from forest runoffs as the province has been lashed by rain for days now and get ready to move their belongings and farm animals to safer ground.
The province is bracing for more rain because the Thai Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain until June 2.
