Niyom Teumsrisuk from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) came out and stated that there is currently sales of illegal drugs on Social Media using the Thailand Post as a delivery tool. The drugs that have been discovered include Yaba, Crystal Meth, Mitragyna Speciosa leaf, Marijuana, Ecstasy, and Cocaine.
The Thailand post is used to deliver both retail orders and large wholesale orders. During this time where drug dealers are opening a new and easier platform for drug users to get what they want, parents must keep a close watch on their children with access to the internet.
An extremely dangerous and risky method these drug dealers are doing is to use your address as the receiver. Do not accept a parcel delivered to you even if it’s under your name if you did not order it yourself. You can easily get in trouble with the law, it will take a lot of time to prove your innocence. If in any case, you notice anything out of the ordinary, alert the officers at the nearest police station.
When sending a parcel in Thailand, you will need 1. Bring your ID card or passport (never let anyone borrow your personal identification documents), 2. Clearly write your address as a sender including your phone number and the address of the receiver, 3. Make sure that what you are delivering is not considered as a restricted item, and 4. Never send a parcel for someone else unless you are certain of what is inside.
These are the items that you must not deliver through Thai post, 1. Sharp objects, 2. Explosives, 3. Poisoned items or dirty items, 4. Living animals, 5. Adult videos, 6. Drugs, 7. Counterfeit goods, 8. Cash, and 9. Flammable items. Sending drugs by mail can get you life in jail, and a fine of 1 to 5 Million THB or the death penalty. Delivering items that are not allowed by mail might land you in jail for up to 2 years or a fine not exceeding 80,000 THB or both.
