The famous temple Wat Tha Mai located in Krathum Baen, Samut Sakhon province celebrates Thai Labour Day by giving the people over 10 tons of durian and unlimited food buffet. The temple states that the big giveaway is to pay respects back to the country and as a contribution to the people in the name of King Rama IX and King Rama X.
The temple invited the people to come and dine at the temple for free under the slogan “Don’t go home until you’re full”. The first person arrived at the temple at 6 am and others continued and the temple filled up with lines of people waiting to enjoy the food and the delicious Durian.
The Wat Tha Mai temple staff announced that the official opening of the Labour Day giveaway would be at 9 am. The people will first line up to receive rice that they can take home for their family. Then they will enter the second line for 1 piece of durian. If people wish to have another piece, they can do so by entering the queue again.
The temple also prepared a food buffet for the people. They could eat as many plates as they wanted to all day, even all 3 meals if they could. The main reason for the great response from the people traveling to Wat Tha Mai was for the durian buffet. To make sure that everyone would receive at one piece of durian and more the temple stocked up over 10 tons of durian.
The Thai citizens were not the only one joining in the grand celebration, but there were people from Myanmar, Cambodia, China, Japan, Laos, Hongkong, Vietnam, and other nations from the world coming together to have a bite from the famous durian fruit.
There was extreme traffic around Wat Tha Mai from the groups of people heading to have a taste of the free durian and food. Inside the temple, the staff tried their best to control the crowd and to keep the lines in place to prevent an overflow of people in the temple and to keep the people happy.
