A large number of Thais love durian, and the same is true with wild elephants, which know exactly how to get the sweet pulp of the thorny fruit.
Plantation owner Sivakapon Rattanarungruang told the Thai-language daily Khao Sod yesterday (June 11, 2020) that workers have to take turns chasing elephants which enter his plantation in Hua Hin around 3 a.m. every day. The elephants know how to pick the ripen fruits and eat the pulp.
The annual durian harvest runs from June to August. This year’s price of the durian is between 200 and 250 baht per kilogram.
