Songkhla (Thai News Agency) – A 70-year-old woman died in this southern province today (Feb. 9) after speeding through a level crossing barrier on her motorcycle just as a train was approaching.
The accident occurred at a level crossing in Hat Yai’s Ban Klong Ya Nua in Ban Phru district with residents who witnessed it saying that the victim, Mrs Vanna Sawopetch, was hit by Padang Bezar-Hat Yai shuttle train number 948 after she sped through the level crossing even though the automatic barrier was down and there were five other motorcycles waiting for the all clear.
The residents said they shouted warnings to her but apparently she did not hear them and was dragged 300 meters after being hit and died on the spot.
