THE head of a fact-finding committee appointed to investigate alleged police involvement in the escape of former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra has been changed and the first meeting moved to tomorrow, Thai News Agency said today (Sept. 25)
Metropolitan Police Deputy Commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Phanurat Lakboon said he just received an order from National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Chakthip Chaijinda to head the panel investigating allegations that Pol. Col. Chairith Anurith, a deputy commander of Metropolitan Police Division 5, appeared to be linked to helping Ms Yingluck escape in place of Pol. Col. Kiatpong Nala, also a deputy commander of Metropolitan Police Division 5
It was Pol. Maj. Gen. Mongkol Warunno, the head of Metropolitan Police Division 5, who had appointed Pol. Col. Kiatpong to head this panel.
The reason cited for this switch is to ensure that the investigation is comprehensive and this change has also led to this panel’s first meeting being moved from today to tomorrow.
