MAKING a move immediately after Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, as head of National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), yesterday lifted parts of the ban on political activities was former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra who posted photos of herself and her brother, former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, in Moscow, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported today (Sept 15, 2018).
Accompanying the photos were details of their visit to the Russian capital as follows:
“My brother brought me along to visit a friend in Moscow, Russia. So I took the opportunity to stroll around, have not been here for a long time and it has changed a lot.
“The roads are wider, the footpaths are regulated and they are taking care of cleanliness. This has led to an increase in the number of tourists and there are also more economic activities.”
After that Yingluck also posted a photo of herself standing alone at the Red Square saying “Red Square is another important tourist spot in Russia.”
According to Khao Sod English, Gen Prayut issued an order under special power of the NCPO yesterday allowing political parties to now hold executive meetings, recruit new members, select their candidates for the polls and hold forums with the public, among other administrative tasks.
However, they are still banned from campaigning in any way. Parties are also instructed to comply with other regulations stated by NCPO.
Yesterday’s partial lifting of the ban was issued under Section 44 of the previous constitution, which remains in effect in the current charter to give NCPO chairman Gen Prayut authority to enact any legal action he deems fit.
