Immigration police arrested a Japanese call center boss who has scammed 46 victims with damages exceeding 12 Million THB. Police Lieutenant General Sompong Chingduang from the Immigration Police reported the arrest of a Japanese man scamming people hiding in Thailand. Police have been keeping an eye out for foreigners residing in Thailand and involved in illegal activities. They noticed Michuma 40 years old from Japan who traveled into Thailand with a visitor visa.
The man has been in Thailand for 2 years with no job but still able to live normally. Officials started an investigation and received information from a friend that he is wanted in Japan. The suspect and 7 other friends started a call center calling victims to scam them. The gang would claim they were police and they needed to inspect information from the victim’s bank account. They had certain ways of speaking to the victims that made them believe it was all true. The victims ended up giving them their bank passwords. The suspect would then send a friend out to visit the victim acting as police.
The fake police officer would inspect the victim’s homes and steal their ATM card. The gang was arrested but Michuma the gang leader escaped by flying out of Japan into Thailand. He has been living in a condo located in Pattaya City, Chonburi Province. The suspect has been arrested and deported back to Japan for his prosecution. This call center gang has 113 cases in Japan with 46 victims and damages exceeding 12 Million THB. Sadly, there have been many cases in Thailand where foreigners are wanted in their own country but decide to escape and hide in Thailand.
