THE Thai cabinet has approved a proposal to expand the airport in the northern province of Loei to cope with a growing number of tourists, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported today (Sept 19, 2018).
When completed in 2021, the airport will be able to handle up to 1.7 million tourists a year. The airport’s current capacity is 900,000 tourists a year.
Loei airport director Weerawat Takong said the expansion will cost the government 987.8 million baht.
Loei’s majestic mountains have drawn a lot of Thai and foreign visitors each year. Previously people trekked up the mountains to view the beautiful scenery but today there is a cable car service making things a lot easier for the tourists.
