Panel: Movie deal on rescued soccer boys still up in the air

DESPITE news having spread that Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to make a movie on the international rescue of 12 soccer boys and their coach from a Chiang Rai cave earlier this year, the spokesman for the Creative Media Committee came out to deny that anything had been settled, Sanook.com reported this morning (Oct 15, 2018).

According to the now refuted news, Universal Pictures has offered 49 million baht for the right to make this movie, working out to be 3.7 million baht for each of them.

Lt-Gen Weerachon Sukhonptiphak, the Creative Media Committee’s spokesman who is currently traveling in Argentina and US with the boys and their coach to join thank you events, said over his personal Instragram account, @nongwerachon, that no deal had yet been struck.

This committee’s working group is still considering the guidelines and criteria for such a venture with their report to be submitted to the panel on Wednesday October 17.

Coach Ekkapol “Ake” Chantawong, who is also traveling with the group, also confirmed that no one had signed an agreement yet, he added.
