Pricy Thai durian hurts Khmer traders

THE high price of Thai durian this year is hurting Cambodian importers as fewer Cambodians can afford to buy it, the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported today (May 27, 2018).

Cambodian trader Bong Cha said the price of Thai durian he imported has gone up from 80 baht per kilogram to between 100 and 120 baht per kilogram. “At this price, not many Cambodians can afford to buy it,” he said.

“Today I have lowered the price to attract more buyers,” said Bong Cha.

“Just like the Thais, we Cambodians love durian,” he added.
