The incident went viral online after a girl shared her experience with the auntie from the fruit cart in Lasalle. There is a sign that says “20 Baht” so the girl went to purchase some fruit as this is the usual price for fruit carts in Thailand. Normally when you buy a bag of fruit whether it be mango, watermelon, or papaya you will get a small bag of sauce or sugar for free to eat with the fruit.

In this case, after the girl told the seller she wanted to buy a bag of mango but the seller tried to charge her 100 THB for the small bag. The seller stated that the mango is 30 THB while the sauce was 20 THB and if the girl wanted salt and chilly too then it would be another 50 THB coming to a total of 100 THB. Normally all this comes free with the purchase at other fruit carts all over Thailand.

A news show from Amarin News went to Lasalle 10 and interviewed a local Win motorbike driver in the area named Prasit Asuchiwa. Prasit stated that the story of the fruit cart is real. There are two sellers, one an auntie and the other an uncle. Even Prasit as someone who works on the road every day has been overcharged by the couple. There is a 20 THB sign but he was charged 50 – 60 THB, when he heard the price he told the seller that he didn’t want it anymore, she told him that he had to pay because the mango has already been chopped.

Ornuch Janjaroen 37 years old another local stated that she saw the 20 THB sign placed in front of the mango. She chose 2 bags and was going to pay 40 THB. The seller asked her if she wanted the sauce to which she replied yes, as you normally eat mango with sauce or spice in Thailand. When she handed the money the seller looked at her and said the bill was 100 THB. When asked where the price came from the seller said the 20 THB is just for one bag of sauce.
