Man held for smuggling Myanmar durian into Thailand

A 25-year-old Thai man from the southern Thai province of Ranong was arrested by soldiers last night (June 3, 2021) and charged with smuggling Myanmar durian into Thailand.

The smuggler and his men took long-tail boats to the Myanmar side of the river, where he bought 2.5 tons of durian from a Myanmar trader.

Acting on a tip-off, Thai soldiers laid in wait and arrested Mr Pairat Wattanom as he returned to the Thai side.

Mr Pairat said he bought durian from a Myanmar trader and sent the fruit to merchants in the southern Thai province of Ranong.
