Laos and Myanmar have discovered their first 2 cases of Covid-19 on 24 March 2020. Myanmar officials confirmed that the Republic of the Union of Myanmar has officially discovered 2 cases of the Covid-19. Laos official Phouthone Moungpak the Deputy Minister confirmed the 2 cases of Covid-19, both cases are Laos citizens. The Myanmar Ministry of Health and Sports revealed that both of the patients are men who have returned from being abroad.
Myanmar has continued its claims that the country has been free from the virus despite high suspicions otherwise. The first patient is 26 years old and had just returned from the U.K. The man was quarantined in Yangon and was tested positive for Covid-19. The second patient is 36 years old U.S. green cardholder. He returned from the USA on 13 March to Chin state. The man started developing Covid-19 symptoms and tested positive for Covid-19 shortly after. Both men are currently hospitalized. Foreigners are allowed into the country only through 3 airports including Yangon Airport, Mandalay Airport, and Nay Pyi Taw Airport. Both citizens and locals entering the country are now subjected to a 14 day quarantine period.
The Lao Health Ministry confirmed the first 2 cases of Covid-19 in Vientiane. Laos Officials revealed that both cases are Lao nationals and both have traveled abroad. One of the patients is a male hotel staff who is believed to have been infected in Thailand while he was in the country for training. The other patient is a tourist guide who traveled to the famous attraction Luang Prabang and Cambodia. She started to show Covid-19 symptoms after returning home. Both patients are hospitalized at Mittaphab Hospital, the designated hospital for Covid-19 cases in Laos.
