PRIME Minister Paetongtarn confirmed late afternoon today (Dec. 3) that the four Thai fishermen captured by Myanmar patrol boats which attacked trawlers on Saturday are safe, TV Channel 7 said.
The Foreign Ministry has submitted a letter to the Myanmar government and received confirmation of their safety.
Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa has negotiated with Myanmar authorities on their release as soon as possible as she had instructed.
Asked whether Thai representatives would be sent to visit the four fishermen, Paetongtarn replied that the Foreign Ministry had coordinated with the Thai embassy in Myanmar as the Thai military and expects them to be released soon.
Sailors aboard three Myanmar patrol boats opened gunfire at three Thai fishing boats which led to the death of a Thai crewmember who had reportedly drowned in the sea and the injury of two others.
