The United Kingdom (UK) police in cooperation with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) have seized 26 stolen luxury vehicles. The cars were stolen in the UK and moved to Thailand to be sold. Somsak Thepsuthin the Minister of Justice and related officials reported the case on 19 September 2022. Somsak stated that UK police contacted DSI through the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) to investigate an international case concerning stolen luxury cars. There are a total of 35 stolen cars that were illegally imported into Thailand worth over 100 million THB in the UK.
These luxury cars have a higher price with an average of triple the value when sold in Thailand. The DSI started working on the case 5 years ago and so far, have found 26 of the 35 vehicles. The UK police sent in all the cars information in 2021 but officials are still searching for the remaining 9 vehicles. The DSI is working fast since they received the information to track down all the cars. Somsak stated “Thank you to all owners of the 26 cars that have accepted the truth and sent in the cars to be seized. A warning to the owners of the 9 other cars that the DSI have already contacted. They are not willing to send in the cars and they may become suspects in the cases”.
This is a part of Operation Titanium where luxury vehicles are stolen from the UK to be sold in Thailand. The real owners in the UK will be contacted to help find a solution to return the vehicles. There are special teams in the cases that will help work together in order to find a fast solution. Those who purchased the vehicles in Thailand can file cases against those who sold them the vehicles. Officials will help with evidence and be a witness in the cases. This is in the case of a buyer who did not know the source of the car and paid to buy the car”.
