Chinatown raid nets big counterfeit haul

A BIG raid at Chinatown’s Sampeng wholesale market led to 8 suspects being arrested for trading counterfeit goods with 5 million baht worth of such illegal products being seized, INN News reported this morning (August 23, 2018).

Pol Maj-Gen Surachet Hakphan, deputy chief of Tourist Police together with some of his officers, 191 Special Branch Police and officers from many other units, raided 10 areas of this market and arrested 6 Thais and 2 foreigners after they were found holding fake big-brand goods.

Seized during this raid were fake caps, bags and loudspeakers worth over 5 million baht.

Pol Maj-Gen Surachet said these raids are being mounted under cooperation between Thailand and US to wipe out the source of counterfeit merchandise because traders have been widely promoting their fake goods over websites and other online channels.

The Sampeng raid followed earlier arrests in Pattaya with the latest suspects being taken to Chakrawat police station for questioning.
