Robber kills woman at Chumphon mall restroom

A 56-year-old woman was fatally stabbed at a southern Chumphon province shopping mall restroom and her 2-baht weight gold chain plus other possessions were stolen, Thai News Agency reported today (April 12).

Police found the victim, identified as Mrs Thatsanee Chaisee, 56, brutally stabbed in the disabled bathroom at this shopping center with her blood over the floor and her pulse very weak. She was rushed to the hospital but died on the way.

Her husband, Mr Suthin Chinto, the owner of a boat here, said he dropped his wife off at the store to go to see a doctor, and had told her he would pick her up after he was through.

Eyewitnesses said they saw a tall, thin man, wearing shorts and a blue T-shirt, who looked a bit strange as he ran out of the store and got on a black Yamaha Nouvo motorcycle, with registration plate number 853, and drive toward Chumphon city.

While police have initially concluded that this is a robbery, with the victim’s gold chain and the pants she was wearing missing, they are still checking other possible motives.

They said the robber was waiting in the store of an opportunity to steal and followed the victim when she went to the toilet. That he stabbed her was because she had fought him.

Police have video footage from CCTVs at the store and roads in this southern city and are chasing him.

This is the third killing in this shopping mall. The first one was when an official shot dead his colleague, and the second a coffee merchant shot dead his wife, with both killings happening in the middle of the store.
