Floodwaters rise in Ayutthaya

FLOODS  rose by 10 centimeters in Ayutthaya province this morning and this pushed floodwaters higher at already flooded areas , Thai News Agency said today.

Severely affected is village number 6 of Sai Noi subdistrict, Bang Ban district, where floodwaters are now one to two meters high and residents are mainly commuting by boat.

Ayutthaya provincial authorities said that altogether six districts, 76 subdistricts, 440 villages and 20,000 houses have been affected by the floods.

The authorities are getting ready to announce that Bang Ban, Phak Hai, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya , Bang Pa-in and Bang Sai are emergency disaster areas after floodwaters rose.

Meanwhile the head of the Royal Irrigation Department project in Ayutthaya confirmed that the floods do not affect all five industrial estates in the province because all of them have strong levees to protect their estates.

At the same the Thai Meteorological Department said that from yesterday upto today a monsoon trough lies across lower North, Central and lower Northeast regions bringing rain to Central and Eastern regions as well as the western coast of the southern region.

Over the next five days from tomorrow this monsoon trough shifts to lower Central, upper South and lower Northeast regions bring isolated heavy to very heavy rain.

Bangkok faces fairly widespread thundershowers and isolated heavy rain throughout this period.
