11m baht worth of contraband cigarettes seized
POLICE and soldiers at Padang Besar border town in southern Songkhla province seized 791 crates containing around 400,000 contraband cigarettes worth 11 million baht today (Dec. 5), Thai News Agency reported.
The team of policemen and soldiers raided 2 single-storey townhouses, in soi 3 off Padang Besar road, after investigators found out that they were being used as warehouses to store contraband goods smuggled across the border from the neighboring country.
They had watched these 2 townhouses for a few days, waiting for the owner and the smugglers to come in, but as there was no sign of them, they moved in and seized the contraband cigarettes today.
Investigation will continue to track down the smugglers of this lot of cigarettes, which is one of the biggest contraband seizures this year.
