7 vendors held for selling sex pills, toys

POLICE raided 12 shops and stalls selling sex pills and toys from Sukhumvit soi 13 to soi 7/1 at 9 p.m. last night and arrested 7 suspects but others got wind of the crackdown and managed to run away, Thai News Agency reported this morning (August 27, 2018).

Deputy National Police Chief Pol Gen Virachai Songmetta, who took Lumpini station and Consumer Protection Police Division policemen on this raid, said shops selling such pills usually set up stalls on the footpath to attract buyers.

This raid arose from complaints that teenagers are mixing sex pills with drinks which they give to their victims at entertainment centers.

The arrested vendors said they sold these pills to both Thais and foreigners, but denied any knowledge of the source, pointing out that they were only hired to sell them.

However details of the packaging of these pills show that they might have been imported, and possibly there is a foreign importer selling wholesale to these vendors.

Police also raid shops in Klong Thom 1 area and seized more of these pills.

Offenders are facing charges of selling drugs without a licence, which carries not more than 5 years in jail and a fine of not more than 10,000 baht, and selling unregistered drugs, for which the penalty is not more than 3 years in jail or a fine of 5,000 baht or both.
