2 illegal immigrants die in police cell
TWO illegal immigrants, one Cambodian and the other Vietnamese, died in a cell at the Immigration Detention Center in Soi Suan Phlu off Sathorn Road last night, INN News reported this morning (Oct 24, 2018).
Pol Lt Kamolphop Disyabut, deputy inspector for investigation at the nearby Thung Maha Mek police station, was informed of 2 persons dying in cell 14 B on the first floor of this detention center, and sent rescuers and a duty doctor from Chulalongkorn Hospital to have a look.
The 2 men died in a 6- by-4-meter cell where 15 persons were sleeping in a row with the 2 of them found dead next to the toilet.
The Cambodian man who died, Mr Sakhee, 55, was brought here from central Nakhon Pathom province while the Vietnamese man, Mr Robert, 72, an amputee, came here from northeastern Nakhon Ratchasima province.
Both were facing the same charge of illegal entry and officials did not find any signs of injury on either of them.
Cell mates said they were all sleeping but one of them got up to use the toilet, however upon getting there noticed that the 2 of them were not breathing. He shook them, but they did not wake up so he called the officers in charge.
