Thief ran away with 5M THB watch with a gun threatening the seller.
Police Captain Ittikorn Chusingha from the Sutthisan Police Station was notified at 3.20 am on the 26th of this month of a sale meetup gone bad. The thief pretended to be an interested buyer to a Richard Mille watch. When the seller met up with the buyer at a hotel in Ladprao, the interested buyer pulled out a gun and ran away with the watch.
The hotel was located on Lad Phrao road in Bangkok. 10 meters from the hotel entrance the police discovered a 9mm gun cartridge, 50 meters away were 2 gun cartridges along with a 9mm fully loaded magazine.
The seller of the watch named Taweewat Sitthikul 35 years old reported that he works full time at his metal business in Hat Yai, Songkhla province. Selling fancy watches is only his extra job, the people in the industry know him as “Naset fancy watch”. He and his girlfriend flew from Hat Yai to Bangkok in order to meet up with the interested buyer.
The watch was a Richard Mille 011-03 TI with Bronze body and yellow straps worth 5.3 Million THB. The interested buyer contacted him through Facebook, together they agreed to meet up at the hotel in Bangkok so that the buyer could check the watch in person. The buyer agreed to meet up at 9.00 pm on the night of the 25th.
Taweewat waited for the buyer at the agreed time but hours had passed with no sign. Taweewat felt that things didn’t seem right as the buyer was a new customer, so he contacted the buyer to cancel the meetup. The buyer insisted that he wanted to buy the watch and changed the time to 1.30 am on the 26th at the hotel.
The buyer seemed to be around 20 to 30 years old, he wore a blue shirt, jeans, and a baseball cap. They were sitting in the lobby of the hotel talking and looking at the watch for 5 minutes when suddenly the buyer pulled out a gun and ran away with the watch. Taweewat was shocked and screamed “Thief, Thief” in hopes that someone would help.
The thief ran out the front entrance, but Taweewat ran after the thief, this is when the thief shot his gun into the air once. The thief then ran towards Lad Phrao 4 and jumped onto his motorbike with the engine still on. Taweewat kept running after the thief as he wanted the watch back, the thief shot 2 times towards him, but luckily he dodged the bullet in time and wasn’t harmed.
The police estimate that this is the work of a professional thief judging from how he carried the robbery. The investigation team is working hard to find clues on who the thief might be.
