Train collision in Ratchaburi leaves at least 30 injured.
There has been a train collision between a passenger train and a cargo train at Pak Tho Station in Ratchaburi Province, the big collision left more than 30 injured. The collision occurred at 18.30 on 24 February 2020 between cargo train722 no. 4210 traveling from Hat Yai, Songkhla Province to Bangkok and a passenger train 37/45 no.4550 from Bangkok to Padang Besar, Malaysia. The passenger train had stopped at the Pak Tho station to pick up passengers when the crash happened and both trains fell off the tracks.
The local rescue team was notified of the accident and injured persons have been delivered to the Pak Tho Hospital. So far there are currently 42 persons reported injured, most have small injuries but 3 are in critical condition, INN News reported. A villager who saw the crash stated that the passenger train stopped at the station on track 2. A railway officer was switching the tracks so that the cargo train would switch onto track 1 that heads to the Ratchaburi Station, the officer might have not switched the tracks on time causing a Head-On collision.
Chayawut Jan the Ratchaburi Provincial Governor has ordered officials in the area to help the injured persons along with managing the traffic around the train station. The cargo train has 2 bogies that have fallen off the tracks and are now blocking 2 tracks at the station causing a stop in the Southern Railway System. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has asked passengers whether they wish to be delivered to Bangkok or delivered to their original destination via bus. SRT has also organized a crane truck that is currently working to move the fallen bogies off the tracks so that the railway can be repaired back to working condition.
