400 baht minimum wage for key tourist areas approved

THE TRIPARTITE wage committee approved 400 baht per day minimum wage for four provinces and one district that are key tourist areas from Jan. 1, 2025 onwards with this set at 372 baht for Bangkok and neighbouring provinces, TV Channel 7 said this evening (Dec. 23).

Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, permanent secretary of the Labour Ministry, said the committee decided after a five-hour meeting to increase the pay floor by 7 to 55  baht a day with the highest being a jump to 400 baht and the lowest 337 baht a day.

Workers in Phuket, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong and Koh Samui district of Surat Thani province are to get 400 a day minimum wage from Jan. 1 onwards because they are collectively a key tourist zone with relatively high cost of living.

Getting 380 baht a day minimum wage are workers in Chiang Mai City and Hat Yai district of southern Songkhla province while those in Bangkok and six adjoining provinces see this rise to 372 baht a day.

The minimum wage for workers in remaining provinces was adjusted by 2%.

Employers did not in any way object to this hike but asked that government agencies have measures in place to assist them.

The wage committee will submit its resolution to the cabinet for approval as soon as possible.
