Hotel turns pink for breast cancer awareness month
WITH October being breast cancer awareness month when a global campaign involving thousands of organizations join forces to draw attention to this disease, here in Thailand a hotel in Hua Hin is also giving a small push by offering a special deal.
This hotel is Radisson Blu Resort Hua Hin which has unveiled a “Love Blu, Be Pink’ drive with a Junior Suite guest room turning pink all of October.
This suite will feature pink décor and enticing pink amenities with a portion of the rental proceeds to benefit charities that support breast cancer research and awareness.
“As one of the brand’s newest properties, Radisson Blu Resort Hua Hin is pleased to play a part in the battle against breast cancer,” said Preet Inder Singh, general manager at Radisson Blu Resort Hua Hin.
“With support from our guests we are keen to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.”
According to Wikipedia.com, the first known use of a pink ribbon in connection with breast cancer awareness was in the fall of 1991, when the Susan G. Komen Foundation handed out pink ribbons to participants in its New York City race for breast cancer survivors.
The pink ribbon was adopted as the official symbol of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month the next year, in 1992. The pink ribbon was derived from the popular red ribbon for AIDS awareness.
The pink ribbon represents fear of breast cancer, hope for the future, and the charitable goodness of people and businesses who publicly support the breast cancer movement. It is intended to evoke solidarity with women who currently have breast cancer.
While specifically representing breast cancer awareness, the pink ribbon is also a symbol and a proxy of goodwill towards women in general. Buying, wearing, displaying, or sponsoring pink ribbons signals that the person or business cares about women, Wikipedia added.
In UK last year a selection of British historic landmarks joined some of the country’s finest pieces of modern architecture to light up pink on October 21st to support this campaign, Wearitpink.org said.
Onlookers in cities and towns including London, Cambridge, Birmingham, Newcastle, Nottinghamshire’s Newark, Liverpool, Brighton, Scotland’s Falkirk, Chester, Derry, Northampton, Isle of Man’s Douglas and Cornwall’s Bodelva were treated to stunning pink illuminations to help raise awareness of Wear it Pink, which raises vital funds for UK’s largest breast cancer charity, Breast Cancer Now.
