Wine dinners at two top hotels

How about a Tuscan wine dinner?

THOSE fancying an elaborate dinner with the special person in their life might considering going to Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit’s Rossini’s restaurant for a Tuscan wine dinner on Friday June 23.

Chef Gaetano Palumbo welcome diners with enticing canapés to enjoy with sparkling Follador Prosecco Gold.

Diners will also be served a delicious appetizer of seasonal white asparagus with a Hokkaido scallop, truffle caviar, tarragon sabayon and northern Italian Speck ham. The dish will be accompanied by the Casanova di Neri Rosso di Montalcino 2013, a wine of great finesse with hints of maraschino cherries, violets and red fruit.

The second dish of the evening, a beef tartar with spring summer salad, will be accompanied by the Felsina Chianti Riserva Rancia 2011, an outstanding wine awarded 94 points by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and described as “an elegant wine with a polished finish. One of the best Riservas of 2011.”

Chef Gaetano will also serve a saffron carnaroli rice risotto with braised oxtail tail and bone marrow to enjoy with the Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno Toscana 2013 using a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot resulting in a wine that was awarded 97 points by James Suckling.

A highlight of the evening will be the succulent duck breast with Parma ham, sweet cherries and kohlrabi paired with the Azienda Agraria Orma 2013. To end the dinner, Chef Gaetano has prepared his secret Sambuca-infused chocolate mousse with apricot and carrot sherbet matched with the Felsina Vin Santo 2003, followed by coffee, tea and sweet treats.

This memorable extravagance costs 3,800++ baht per person.

German chef to delight diners at Mandarin Oriental

MANDARIN Oriental also has very special wine lunch and dinner lined up at Le Normandie  during June 5 to 10  with this to be prepared by Michelin three-star chef Thomas Bühner from Germany’s acclaimed La Vie restaurant.

Chef Bühner, who is famed for composing menus “like a symphony,” will prepare innovative avant-garde five-course lunch menu and eight-course dinner menu. The event will conclude on June 10  with an exclusive six-course wine dinner

The lunch menu is priced at 4,500 baht with 4 glasses of wine pairing at 1,800 baht while dinner menu costs 8,500 baht with 5 glasses of wine pairing priced at 2,200 baht and 7 glasses of wine pairing 3,000 baht.

Chef Claus Olsen, the hotel’s executive pastry chef, allows guests to watch the assembling of this delectable treat live amid spectacular Chao Phraya River views. The delicacies, including Italian lady fingers, aromatic espresso, mouth-watering premium cheese and cream mixture and a gentle touch of liquor, are exquisitely incorporated to form what promises to be a very special serving of tiramisu.

The “Tiramisu in Action” treat is priced at 158 baht net per person.
