Trash heroes to clean up Kamala Beach
THOSE already in Phuket or will be there this weekend might like to join a big cleanup of Kamala Beach on Saturday October 1, 2016 with there to be free food and drinks for participants and no signing up required.
This has been organized by Trash Hero Phuket and Kamala Green Club with Andara Resort & Villas sponsoring the event. The meeting point is Kamala Police Station at 2 p.m. but those who come early could join a free yoga class on the beach at 1 p.m.
Trash Hero is a grassroots organization which won the Green Excellence Award in 2015 and has inspired cleanups around the country and beyond.
Its goal is to create sustainable, community-based projects that will remove existing waste and reduce future waste by inspiring long-term behavior change. This is done through the following:
- Action and Awareness: Picking up trash be it a cigarette butt on the road or 20,000 kilos from island beaches because as is well known action speaks louder than words.
- Education: Backing up hands-on experience with educational information about the impact that trash has on the global environment.
- Sustainable projects: Creating long-term projects that bring communities together to remove and better manage waste and work out strategies to reduce the amount of waste produced in future.
- Inspiration: Motivating people to become Trash heroes in their everyday lives.
Meanwhile Kamala Green Club coordinates a private sector supported initiative for waste management and community education for a greener Kamala Beach.
