Oppo, Realme apologise after warning over loan app

AFTER the Thai Consumers Council issued a warning about the dangers of illegal applications that are not part of Google Play Store especially one name Fineasy that offers loans and comes pre-installed on Oppo and Realme devices and cannot be deleted the two companies issued an apology and said they were quickly fixing the problem, Thai Rath newspaper said today (Jan. 12).

The council said this app cannot be uninstalled from smartphones and is still sending notifications inviting users to borrow money while also accessing their personal information such as contact lists and phone numbers.

Both Oppo and Realme issued similar statements sincerely apologising for the pre-installed Fineasy app while confirming the importance of user safety and privacy.

Oppo said it has removed the loan information on Fineasy and only daily service functions remain. It is expediting the process that would allow users to uninstall the app as soon as possible.

Those who want to uninstall it immediately were advised to contact Oppo official customer service centres nationwide.

Realme likewise said it has removed all loan information from the Fineasy app with only features related to daily service remaining.

It is expediting the release of an update allowing users to delete the app with those wanting to do so immediately told to contact its service centres nationwide.

Realme added that it will stop installing all types of loan apps in future smartphone models and will also stop displaying and recommending loan apps in app markets.
