Tourist boat sinks in Chao Phraya boat collision
A TUGBOAT laden with heavy loads of sand lost control and slammed a tourist boat at a pier adjacent to Krungthep bridge triggering chain reaction leading to four others likewise being hit and one sinking while a woman got injured earlier today (Dec. 4), Naewna newspaper said.
At 10.56 a.m. a team from Special Operations and Water Rescue Division rushed to the scene of the accident on the Chao Phraya river after alerting Rama 199 Radio Centre.
About 15 minutes later a team from Yan Nawa Fire and Rescue Station too arrived there with volunteers quickly taking the woman who suffered a minor injury to the hospital.
A video clip shows that the sand-laden tugboat had lost control while sailing along the Chao Phraya river and hit one of the five 200-seat to 45-seat tourist boats moored at the pier by the bridge which then swung and smashed the other four.
One of the smaller tourist boats then sank.
The Harbor Department and the police later took control of the operation.
