402 workers in quarantine after 115 confirmed Covid-19 cases in Pineapple factory.
402 workers are now in quarantine after 115 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed positive in a canned factory. Most of the workers are Burmese workers and officials are preparing a quarantine center inside the factory. Kittipong Sukpakun the Deputy Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province reported on the new Covid-19 cluster. There has been a wide spread of the virus among the factory worker group. The latest update shows there are 115 Covid-19 cases inside the factory. All of these cases are receiving medical care. The Deputy Governor states that the factory will be used as a quarantine faculty for the workers during the 14-day period.
There are 593 workers in the factory. 53 are Thai workers on monthly contracts. There are 540 daily workers and 523 of them are Burmese. There are 402 workers are considered as high-risk individuals and must quarantine. 202 reside at the factory apartment and 200 reside outside of the factory area. All of them must quarantine at the designated quarantine space. No one is allowed inside the quarantine area. Exceptions include a medical emergency where a worker must visit the hospital and food deliveries. The quarantine center has security 24/7 and the quarantine ends on 20 May 2021.
Panya Konyai the village chief Nong Nok Noi Village in Hin Lek Fai Sub-district stated there may be more cases related to the factory. He is afraid the virus will spread to villages near the factory and to other areas inside the Sub-district. The factory has both Thai and Burmese workers. Locals wait for news from the local authorities. Therefor, the right information needs to be put out to protect against unwanted fear. The main importance is for locals to practice safety precautions such as mask wearing, social distancing, and washing hands frequently. The village chief asks villagers to stay inside their homes at all times.
