Ikea, Decathlon link up with CP group in unveiling new retail format
CHANGES are afoot in the Thai retail market with Swedish furniture giant Ikea and French sporting goods retailer Decathlon having linked up with Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group) in introducing Thailand’s first “Future Convenience Store” (FCS) in Hang Dong district, Chiang Mai, with plans to later expand to other provinces, Thai Rath newspaper said yesterday (Nov. 6).
This venture is being undertaken by CP Future City Development Corp. Ltd. (CPFC), together with CP AXTRA, CP ALL and TRUE, with the outlet still being built and expected to be opened in March next year.
Ms. Paphitchaya Suwandee, CEO of CPFC, said the collaboration adds a new dimension to convenience store shopping business in Thailand.
The concept emphasises the community while responding to the ever-changing needs of consumers being in a scale suitable for convenient shopping.
More such outlets will later be opened in various provinces to meet the specific needs of consumers in communities outside Bangkok.
