AN earthquake of 3.4 magnitude hit Phang-nga province’s Koh Yao islands at 12.58 pm today (May 24), Matichon newspaper quoted Thai Meteorological Department’s Seismological Bureau as saying in its website.

The epicenter of the quake was two kilometers deep at the Koh Yao islands.

Residents of the two islands,  Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai, felt the quake as did some people in parts of Phuket, which is 10 kilometers away, particularly those in mid-rises at Phuket Town. However there was no report of any damage.

Most of the sea gypsies at Sirey Island’s Laem Tukkae, which is the area nearest the quake’s epicenter at Phuket province,  said they did not feel anything so there was no panic.
