50,000 Cambodian SIM cards seized at border

OFFICIALS at Aranyaprathet border checkpoint today (Dec. 7) seized 50,000 Cambodian subscriber identity module (SIM) cards which Cambodian workers tried to get across to Thailand in 3 travel bags, Thai News Agency reported.

The Cambodian workers were hired to cart across the 3 bags full of SIM cards, all with new mobile phone numbers attached, and clear the customs at Klong Luek border checkpoint in eastern Sa Kaeo province’s Aranyaprathet town.

Police suspect that these SIM cards belong to Chinese call center gangs, and are liaising with mobile phone operators to check them.

They are also investigating whether any Thais are linked to smuggling Cambodian SIM cards to Thailand.
