Chiang Rai’s White Temple Artist Designs Luxury Boat for Anantara Chiang Mai Resort

Anantara Chiang Mai Resort unveils the ‘Dibba Yana Chitta’ (Heavenly Boat), a stunning new vessel crafted by Thai National Artist Ajarn Chalermchai Kositpipat, renowned for the iconic White Temple in Chiang Rai. This exclusive boat combines Ayutthayan-inspired design with modern artistry, offering an exceptional culinary journey along the historic Mae Ping River.

Ajarn Chalermchai, named Thailand’s National Artist in 2011, drew inspiration from his artwork series “Dibba Yana Chitta,” which portrays the journey from this world to the next. The boat features a hand-carved mythical figurehead symbolizing the passage to heaven. “The design reflects my fascination with Ayutthayan boats and my artistic exploration of paradise,” he shared.

With only 18 seats, the ‘Dibba Yana Chitta’ offers an intimate dining experience. Each season, a Michelin-starred chef curates a tasting menu. The inaugural menu, by Chef Piyachart “Boy” Phudtawong of Saneh Jaan, showcases seven courses of refined Thai cuisine paired with wines from Monsoon Valley. Chef Boy, celebrated for his mastery of royal Thai desserts, brings his expertise to the table from December 2024 to March 2025.

Pitak Norathepkitti, General Manager of Anantara Chiang Mai Resort, emphasized, “The Mae Ping River is the soul of the city, and we are honoured to collaborate with Ajarn Chalermchai to create this extraordinary experience.”

Departing daily at 5:30 pm from Anantara’s private pier, the journey includes sunset views, cocktails, classical Thai music, and traditional costume photo opportunities. Dinner is priced at THB 6,999++ per person, with an additional THB 1,999++ for wine pairing. The experience begins on 24 December 2024.
