Construction firm sued for damaging trees

Chatuchak District Director Pokkrong Pollamuang has sued Italian-Thai Development Plc for damaging 20 tall trees planted along Phaholyothin Road in Bangkok, the Thai-language Daily News reported today (March 5).

According to the paper, the company had sent a letter to the district director requesting permission to remove the trees to make way for the construction of an elevated rail line on Phaholyothin Road. The request had yet to be approved when workers removed all branches of the trees.

Mr Pokkrong said the district will sue the company for violating the law on city cleanliness, which carries a maximum fine of 5,000 baht.
