Fifth member of human trafficking gang arrested
THE Second Naval Area Command and the Department of Special Investigations (DSI) arrested the 5th member of a gang of 5 human traffickers on a fishing boat off southern Nakhon Si Thammarat province yesterday (Nov. 17), INN News reported.
Rear Admiral Montri Rodwiset, deputy commander of the Second Naval Area Command and Mr Somchai Mahasuk, a special DSI investigator, went on two HTMS ships, Luang Sattahip and Tor 94, to the fishing boat, Jor Nava 5, which was 25 miles off Nakhon Si Thammarat coast where they arrested the suspect Mr Thanongsak, 40, a native of southern Songkhla province.
The suspect was brought ashore at Songkhla Naval base and then sent to DSI to proceed with legal action.
Rear Admiral Montri and Mr Somchai told the press that the 5 suspects lured workers to work on fishing boats by offering them good wages after which they were sent to fish in the Gulf of Thailand.
These workers eventually got paid very low wages and had to work like slaves and were beaten if they disobeyed which means this is a human trafficking case.
