Flood at BTS Bang Na Skywalk, passengers fear electric shock
The Bang Na Sky Train Station was flooded with water due to the heavy rain on the 23rd of this month (July 2019). The temporary flood was caused by overflowing water waiting to drain. Passengers tried their best to avoid the water as they feared electrocution.
Many areas in Bangkok had heavy rain for hours causing an overflow of water waiting to be drained into the water drainage system. The heavy rain flooded the BTS Skywalk at Bang Na Station to about ankle level. Every time it rains in Bangkok, traffic gets even worse than it already is. Cars were stuck for long hours on the roads that seemed to stay still.
Many Bangkokians decided to use the BTS as an alternative to the heavy traffic, making BTS even more cramped than it already is during rush hours when passengers travel back home for some rest. A passenger recorded other passengers trying to avoid the flood on the skywalk and posted it online. The video soon went viral online.
A Facebook User named Phudsachar Phongsay posted a video of passengers trying their best to avoid stepping in the water. The passengers were holding onto the sides of the skywalk to help balance them on the small stepping area above the water.
Netizens commented on the video stating that the passengers were not afraid of the water, but they were in fear of being electrocuted. One comment gave very good advice that stated: “Before touching anything made from metal, especially in situations like this that involve water, it’s better to first gently touch it with the back of your hand”.
Phudsachar captioned the video stating “Bangkok, a good life”. This is a saying that is commonly used by young Thai’s with the intention to give it a sarcastic meaning.
