Icelander dies in Hua Hin kitesurfing accident
AN Icelander who regularly kitesurfed in Hua Hin died this afternoon after the kite fell into the sea and the ropes got entangled and pulled him into the water, the Thai-language daily Matichon said today (Dec. 20).
Pol. Capt. Charuk Kongkarien, a deputy investigator at Hua Hin station, rushed to beach at Hua Hin soi 77 and found Jonathan Ceres Washkin, 43, a tourist from Iceland, dead on the beach.
Mr Sivichai Chaengla, 26, a kite surfing instructor at Surf Sport Hua Hin Company, said the deceased regularly kitesurfed and kept his gear at the company.
However, this company is shut on Wednesdays, so he got his gear out on his own and went riding in the sea amid strong waves and wind.
After a little while his kite fell into the sea and the ropes got entangled and pulled him down. The other kitesurfers freed him, but it was too late.
