Mae Klong Riverside Pavilion collapses, 23 injured and 3 still missing.
A pavilion on the riverside of Mae Klong River collapsed in Samut Songkhram Province, 23 people have been injured and 3 are still missing. It is estimated that the main reason for the fall of the pavilion is subsidence caused by the water in the river naturally moving the land above lower.
The incident took place at around 12.45 on the 16th of this month (July 2019) in Samut Songkhram. The pavilion was being used as a riverside shop near the Wat Phet Samut Worawihan Temple in the main city of Samut Songkhram. The whole pavilion collapsed into the water below. Because the pavilion was near a temple there were a lot of local tourists in the area as the 16th is Asahna Bucha Day, a National Buddhist holiday in Thailand.
The tourists fell on the pavilion all fell into the water. The current reports are 23 persons have been injured in the incident and 3 are currently missing. Locals and the relatives are waiting around the fallen pavilion in hopes of finding their loved ones. Officials are searching in the area with best hopes to find the missing persons safe and sound.
The Samut Songkhram Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and the Police notified the local rescue team to come to look for the missing persons in the water. They have also set up a local service center in the city where other departments are offering help to the victims and the relatives of the families affected by the incident.
The 3 missing persons are 1. Miss Suriporn Urachuen, 2. Miss Pornpilai Suelek, and 3. Kaotoo a student at the Wat Pom Kaew Temple School.
