‘No more torture in Thai prisons’

A MEETING chaired by Justice Minister Prajin Jantong this morning (Feb. 16) voted to ban torture and other forms of human rights violation against inmates in Thailand, Khao Sod newspaper reported.

The meeting also agreed to set up job-training centers in all 143 prisons around the country to enable inmates to make a decent living after their release from prison.

Presently, there are 334,931 inmates at 143 prisons around Thailand. Thirty-two corrections officials have been fired for various offences during the past four months, the paper added.
