Thai jackfruit popular in China

Jackfruit plantation owners in the eastern Thai province of Chon Buri have found a new big market in China, where people consider the yellow pulp of the fruit as auspicious, the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported yesterday (Feb 7, 2020).

The Nonghiang jackfruit of Chon Buri has green, thorny skin, unlike other species that have brown thorny skin.

Many Thais plant jackfruit trees in the compounds of their homes. believing that the trees would bring them prosperity.

Thai plantation owners harvest nearly three million kilograms of jackfruits each year. Eighty percent of them are sent to China.
