Thailand’s first prison-themed hotel amazes the world
MAKING waves worldwide is Thailand’s first prison-themed hotel which opened in Udomsuk area of Bangkok last April, Thai News Agency said today (August 18).
Called Sook Station and located near Udomsuk BTS station this unusual hotel has been designed and decorated just like a prison with guests given black and white stripped prison uniform to wear similar to foreign prisons.
They get to sleep alone on narrow bunk beds with bars on doors and windows as in a real jail.
The owners of this offbeat hotel are Sithichai Chaiworawapruk, 55, and his wife Suwanna Suwanarat, 42, who have travelled extensively and turned a whim to stay in a jail hotel into reality by creating one themselves.
They said they were inspired to introduce this quirky hotel through the 1993 movie “The Shawshank Redemption” starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins.
The couple added that they just want to give people an experience of what it is like to sleep in jail and their rates are from 790 to 1,630 baht a night.
