Chinese Online Gambling Gang arrested in Pattaya.
A large Chinese Online Gambling Gang was arrested on 4 August 2019 in Pattaya, Chonburi Province. The main customers of the gang are Chinese living in China, but to hide from the authorities they came into Thailand to set up an operation base.
Police Major General Nanthachat Supmongkol and Police Colonel Chitdaecha Songhong with the Tourist Police and the Immigration Police inspected several rooms on the 7th floor of a Condominium in Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. The Police received information on a group of Chinese acting suspiciously, with the possibility of taking part in gambling activities.
The police searched 3 rooms and successfully arrested 19 Chinese men and women. There was an overwhelming amount of evidence including at least 20 computers, over 300 smartphones with daily internet sim cards, and electronic accounts. Some electronic accounts are not in use and some have not been used at all.
The Police previously received information that there were many Chinese tourists going into the rooms. Many were inside the rooms that it seemed suspicious pointing to unusual behavior. The related police divisions started investigating the area until they were certain that the Chinese were joining in activities connected to online gambling. The Chinese group residing in the condominium are paid by Chinese bosses in China to open accounts for Chinese gamblers using the websites.
There is money transferred back and forth between Thailand and China every day via electronic accounts. Approximately 8 Million THB is transferred from Thailand into China per day. Each of the Chinese that were arrested receive 40,000 THB per month from the bosses. They have been operating from the 7th floor of the condo for a long time.
All of the Chinese were in Thailand with a tourist Visa. The policed have charged them with working without a permit in the Kingdom other charges will depend on the prosecution process.
