2,884 held in World Cup gambling raids

A TOTAL of 2,884 Thais have been arrested for taking part in World Cup soccer betting since the event started on June 14, 2018, Sanook.com reported today (June 21, 2018).

Among those arrested were 139 gambling operators, 2,575 gamblers, and 57 online betting organizers. Police also seized 568,121 baht in cash and bank books with 2,520 baht in deposits.

Royal Thai Police Office spokesman Kritsana Pattanacharoen said policemen have been instructed to monitor Internet and game shops around the country during the World Cup season.

He said World Cup gambling operators will have their assets seized under the Anti-Money Laundering Law.
