Fake Chinese doctor held for swindle

A 56-year-old Chinese man was arrested in the southern island of Samui today (Nov. 22) and charged with swindling a 73-year-old Thai woman out of one million baht, the Thai-language Daily News reported.

The fake doctor offered to cure the woman of rheumatoid arthritis, which affects the lining of her joints, causing a painful swelling. The woman reportedly paid 2,500 baht for each capsule he offered.

After spending one million baht on the drug that did not cure her pain, she went to the police, who arrested the suspect and charged him with swindle and possessing unregistered medicine.
