Cabinet approves 1.6 billion baht for flood-hit farmers
CABINET approved a budget of 1.685 billion baht to help flood-hit farmers with this working out to be 3,000 baht a household and ordered that the funds be distributed within a month, Thai News Agency said this afternoon (August 8).
Nathporn Chatusripitak, an adviser to Prime Minister’s Office, said today’s Cabinet meeting approved 1.685 billion baht mid-year budget to help farmers after tropical storms Talas and Sonca left a trail of destruction particularly in the North and Northeast.
This works out to be 3,000 baht for each of the 561,520 households affected by the floods as suggested by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives and is on top of the steps the Finance Ministry is implementing.
In order to get this financial assistance the farmers have to have registered with either Agricultural Extension, Fisheries or Livestock Development departments before the disaster struck and can only get help in one field not all three with the cash to be handed out within 30 days.
A total of 4.44 m rai of farmland and 27,456 rai of aquaculture were destroyed by the floods while 1,179,592 farm animals were affected and 467 rai of grassland damaged in 36 provinces
