Spa, diving school raided in Koh Samui crime drive
TOURIST Police launched a crime sweep through Koh Samui and arrested the foreign owner of a spa, unlicensed diving operators and foreigners selling drugs at entertainment venues, INN News said today (Oct. 5).
Pol. Maj. Gen. Surachet Hakphan, acting deputy chief of Tourist Police, said these raids, mounted with the help of Surat Thani Public Health officials, Consumer Protection Police and a Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) unit were launched to prepare for the Amazing Thailand Tourism Year 2018.
The police team raided the spa in Mae Nam district of the island after receiving many complaints from tourists who faced problems after using their services.
Police found that this spa, which is owned by a foreigner, offered health services such as detox and acupuncture without a physician, expert or a health certificate holder present with the service providers also being foreigners who either did not have a work permit or the wrong type of permit.
Police also raided a diving school operating without a license, rounded up unlicensed taxi drivers and arrested colored foreigners for overstaying and causing crime in the area including selling drugs at entertainment centers at night with their target also including the famous full moon parties.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Surachet said all flights to Koh Samui are full till yearend which shows tourism has increased after an effort to prevent crime and make tourism more orderly paid off.
It is to further boost confidence that he mounted this crime drive, he added.
